What is Katazome?
Katazome is a Japanese stencil dyeing technique, an early version of what is called screenprinting today. The design is cut into a piece of hand-made mulberry paper called shibugami. The paper is soaked with persimmon tannin to make it waterproof. Materials typically included in the making are paper, rice paste, and soymilk.
